“LifeTeams are to be the spiritual authority in the area they operate in.” – Curry Blake, JGLM

After discussing the verse in Isaiah 41:10 the other day, I remembered the promise to Abraham in Genesis 13 and then the promise to Moses in Deuteronomy and to Joshua in Joshua, which are the same promise.  The first instruction we see here in this ‘Scripture Picture’ is to “look” but not just to look, it’s to look “as far as you can see – in all directions”!  This is an action word, something we can do. It’s also not a suggestion, but a command.  We need to look “as far as we can in all directions”.  This involves imagining.  Imagining more than we can see at the moment.  If trees are in our way, we need to move so we can see more.  If there’s a mountain in our way, we need to climb it so we can see what’s beyond it. (Ephesians 3:20)  We have to take this first step of faith, by looking to see what all God has provided so that we can then believe Him for it, since we have heard His Word in the matter (Romans 10:17). Next comes faith (an action based on belief).  Jesus told us to

Go.

See, the Lord cannot give us what we don’t work for (Deuteronomy 28:12, 2 Thess. 3:10).  Let’s also ponder James 2:14-24.  See, Abraham had to go and take a physical land for his physical descendants. However, one of these descendants was Jesus.  Taking this physical land resulted in paving the way for the Savior & Healer & Deliverer to come so this verse is also talking about spiritual warfare.  What is spiritual warfare?

Heal the sick.

Cast out demons.

Raise the dead.

Make disciples.

Every time we ‘GO‘ and do any of the above, we are taking back from the enemy what he stole from us and that is the very ground where that new disciple stands.  So while Abraham had to go and take physical land to pave the way for the spiritual Kingdom, we need to go and take back land to restore the Kingdom of God here on earth (Luke 10:9).

PS – In light of what I’m sharing, we need to realized that these promises ARE to us and for us!  These are not just commands and promises to the men of old.  As we go through this Daily Word together, lets remember what Jesus said in Matthew 22:31 (“have you not read what was spoken to you by God”) and echoed in Hebrews 12;5 (“the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children”) and then again in 2 Peter 1:5 (“In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises”).
